Controversy arises around Kentucky vehicle tax refunds

FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) – Kentucky’s state treasurer is criticizing the Beshear administration around hundreds of refund checks headed to the completely wrong tackle.

On Monday, treasurer Allison Ball canceled far more than 3,800 vehicle tax refund checks, totaling more than $157,000.

Previously this calendar year, the normal assembly handed legislation freezing automobile house tax charges, making countless numbers of Kentuckians qualified for a refund.

Some men and women had currently marketed their cars before checks were mailed out, according to Ball, triggering some to be directed to the improper man or woman.

Ball reported she was performing as a watchdog from the Beshear administration who she explained requested her to proceed with sending out the checks in any case and to get the revenue back later on.

“It was an error, it happens. That wasn’t the challenge. The difficulty was becoming informed to go in advance and send these checks out to the wrong individuals, then we’re going to ship them a tax bill to get the funds again, and we’re likely to hold their tax refund hostage except they pay out us back again,” mentioned Ball.

Holly Johnson, secretary of Kentucky’s Finance and Administration Cabinet, wrote in a letter to Ball that canceling the checks would result in confusion amid those that get them and disrupt the flow of the ongoing motor vehicle tax refund method.
